Who Wins

  • Pre-6, Diana has a meaningful level 3 spike when she gets her full kit, but you can contest early by landing Q stacks at range before she closes the gap — if she walks up without her E available, you can poke safely since your Q outranges her melee threat.
  • Post-6, Diana's R gives her a reliable gap-close that punishes any passive positioning, so you need your own R placed preemptively to slow her approach and mark her for execution rather than trying to out-duel her in a straight fight.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to stack Q marks at range (ideally 2–3 stacks), then commit to E blink into W activation to cash in the burst before Diana can proc her passive shield or land her R reset — the window is tight because Diana's shield from her W absorbs part of your on-hit damage.
  • Never start W before you've confirmed Q stacks are on her, as burning W without stacks means you take true damage for minimal return and lose the heal value that keeps you alive through her retaliation.

Wave Control

  • You want to shove the wave efficiently using Q on minions to maintain stack pressure on Diana simultaneously, then look to roam or force a reset — Diana's wave clear is strong post-6 so sitting in a slow push war lets her match you and look for all-ins.
  • If you're behind, freezing near your tower is viable since Diana's all-in requires her to dive, and your R placed in the freeze zone creates execution threat that discourages her from committing.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not activate W reactively after Diana has already landed her full combo on you — by that point you've already absorbed her burst and the heal may not save you, whereas W mid-combo forces her to respect the true damage trade-off.
  • Avoid using E purely as an escape tool without Q stacks loaded, as it wastes your primary damage amplifier and leaves you with no mobility for several seconds against a champion who can chain CC and reset her R.
