Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you win most extended trades at level 3 when you have Q, W, and E available — your W shield absorbs a meaningful portion of Locke's on-hit passive damage and your Q pull sets up free E damage.
  • Post-6, your R gives you a reliable engage tool that Locke struggles to answer if you respect his R placement, but if he has his R totem down with the 99% slow, do not hard commit because the execution threshold mechanic punishes you severely when low.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to land Q to proc your passive shield, then immediately E into the empowered auto-attack to deal burst before Locke can stack his Q marks and retaliate — the shield timing is critical because it absorbs his on-hit damage during your engage window.
  • If Locke has pre-stacked Q marks on you, respect the trade and disengage rather than tanking his E-W combo, as his burst with full stacks plus W true damage can outpace your shield's mitigation.

Wave Control

  • You have strong wave clear with Q and E, so you should look to shove the wave and roam or force Locke to choose between following and losing wave — his wave clear is slower without burning abilities he needs for trading.
  • Avoid letting Locke establish a freeze near his tower because his R placed in that zone creates a dangerous execution zone where you'd need to dive into a 99% slow and potential one-shot threshold.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not use your R as a pure engage tool when Locke has his R totem already placed nearby — you'll land in the AoE slow at low health after trading, putting you directly in execution range with no escape.
  • Avoid trading when Locke has 3 Q stacks on you and his E is available, as that combination represents his maximum burst window and your W shield alone is unlikely to absorb enough damage to survive the full sequence.
