Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you win most trades if you land E first to root Hwei, then follow with W into Q to detonate the sigil before he can reposition or cast his slow, telegraphed combos.
  • Hwei has no mobility and his abilities have long wind-ups, so levels 2–3 are strong windows for you to force damage before he builds enough mana to sustain through your poke.
  • Post-6, you delete Hwei in one rotation if you open with E-R(E) to double-root him, then W-Q-R(Q) or R(W)-Q to burst him down before he can respond — he has no escape and his passive does not save him from a full LeBlanc combo.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is E into W, detonating Q on the way in, then immediately deciding whether to extend with R or retreat with W's return based on his HP and positioning.
  • If he flashes or tries to retaliate with his own combo, your W return gives you a free escape window that he cannot punish.
  • Avoid trading when his abilities are already pre-aimed at your position, as his zone-control spells can chunk you significantly if you walk into them carelessly.

Wave Control

  • You push the wave fast with W-Q or Q-R(Q) to create pressure and force Hwei to choose between farming and responding to your roams, since he has no reliable way to match your roam speed or wave clear tempo early.
  • Once you have a lead, prioritize shoving and roaming bot or top rather than sitting in lane, because Hwei's kit becomes more dangerous as the game goes longer and he accumulates items.
  • Do not let the wave sit in the middle for extended periods — a frozen wave near his tower removes your roam threat and lets him farm safely while poking you.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not walk into his pre-placed ability zones trying to force a trade, especially when he has his full combo available, because eating a full Hwei rotation at 60–70% HP can put you in passive range and flip the lane.
  • Your W is your primary safety valve, but if you burn it aggressively and he has his abilities ready, you are a stationary target with no escape.
  • Respect his range advantage in the early levels before you have R, and do not overextend for kills when his abilities are off cooldown and you are below half HP.
