Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you win short trades by poking with Q and auto-attacking to stack marks, but Xin Zhao's level 2 all-in (Q+W) is extremely dangerous if he closes the gap — respect his early burst and never let him get three hits on you without an escape route.
  • Post-6, your R gives you a meaningful power spike that can flip extended fights, but Xin Zhao's R knocks you out of your own R's stun window if he uses it reactively, so your all-in is less reliable than it appears.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to poke with Q from max range to stack marks passively, then commit to a short auto-Q-auto burst only when Xin Zhao's E is on cooldown or he is out of position — never extend the trade into a prolonged fight because his W sustain and attack speed shred will outpace your damage over time.
  • Use E to disengage immediately after landing your burst rather than staying in melee range.

Wave Control

  • Push the wave consistently with your ranged advantage to deny Xin Zhao easy farm and force him to walk up under tower, where you can poke him safely without fear of his all-in.
  • Avoid letting the wave freeze near your tower because that removes your range advantage and gives him a free engagement angle with no escape room for you.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not use E aggressively to close distance onto Xin Zhao — it is your only reliable escape tool and burning it to trade means you die to his counter-engage or jungler pressure.
  • Many Kennen players overcommit after landing a Q mark thinking the stun guarantees a kill, but Xin Zhao's R displacement and knockup can interrupt your combo and turn the fight entirely.
