Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you lose this lane clearly — Azir's soldiers outrange your Q, you have no mobility to dodge his poke, and walking into his soldier zone to farm is consistently punishing.
  • Post-6, your R gives you global pressure that Azir cannot match, but in a direct 1v1 Azir still wins because his R knocks you back and interrupts your R channel if he uses it while you're casting.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to bait Azir into overextending toward you, then drop W to slow him and stack Q damage while he's caught in the zone — but this only works if he mispositions, which a competent Azir will rarely do.
  • You are not winning trades by walking at him; your damage pattern requires him to come to you, so play reactively rather than aggressively.

Wave Control

  • You should prioritize safe farming with Q at max range and accept that you will likely be pushed under tower for much of the laning phase, using W defensively to discourage all-ins rather than offensively.
  • Look to scale into mid and late game where your R provides cross-map value, and communicate with your team to capitalize on your R damage after fights break out elsewhere.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not die unnecessarily in this lane — your passive makes dying feel low-cost, but Azir will deliberately bait you into passive and then disengage, denying you the kill gold while you give him a shutdown bounty and XP lead.
  • Dying repeatedly also delays your item spikes, which are critical for your R to become a meaningful threat.
