LaneDiff costs me $50/month to run. If it helped you win a lane, a small tip keeps it alive. 💙

Who Wins
- Pre-6 you win convincingly at every level spike — your level 1 cannon Q poke, level 2 hammer E-Q all-in threat, and level 3 full combo all outclass what Maokai can do before he has his R.
- Post-6 Maokai's R changes the dynamic in extended fights and skirmishes, but you still win the 1v1 if you respect his engage and use your hammer E to disengage before he can stack W damage on you.
How to Trade
- Your optimal pattern is to poke with cannon Q and W slow to chip his HP, then when he is low enough or overextends, switch to hammer form and land E-Q to burst him before he can stick to you — the key is never letting him get a free W stack session on you in melee range.
- If he lands Q on you, immediately use hammer E to knock him back and reset the trade rather than letting him sustain through your damage.
Wave Control
- Keep the wave slightly frozen or slow-pushed near your side of the lane to maximize the distance Maokai must cross to reach you, giving you more time to poke in cannon form and punish his approach.
- Avoid hard shoving the wave into his tower, as that removes your poke angle and lets him safely farm while regenerating HP with W passive.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not get baited into staying in hammer form too long trying to finish him off — Maokai's W and passive sustain mean he can outlast you in a prolonged melee exchange, and his Q root will lock you in place for his full damage rotation.
- Always have your hammer E available as an escape tool before committing to a close-range trade.
