Who Wins
- Pre-6, Gragas wins early skirmishes at levels 1-2 because his W gives him sustain and his E-auto-Q combo deals significant burst before your E can mitigate it; once you hit level 3 with E online you can start contesting trades more safely, but Gragas still has the edge if he plays aggressively with his full combo.
- Post-6, you win extended fights decisively because your R gives you enough durability to survive his burst window and your sustained DPS outscales his cooldown-dependent damage.
How to Trade
- Wait for Gragas to use his E aggressively or his W to sustain, then immediately E in to absorb his follow-up auto and Q, and commit to a full extended trade where your passive stacks and R uptime outlast his damage window.
- Never take short trades — Gragas wins those because his E-auto-Q burst is front-loaded and he can disengage before your damage fully ramps.
Wave Control
- Push the wave early to deny Gragas his W sustain on minions and force him to either take poke or lose CS; a pushed wave also limits his ability to freely use E without overextending.
- Once you have a lead, look to freeze near your tower to bait him into unfavorable all-ins where your R and passive give you the durability advantage.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not E onto Gragas when he has his E available and full HP — he will E through you, auto-Q, and disengage before your counter-trade deals meaningful damage, leaving you worse off.
- Avoid mistaking your E's dodge as a full counter to his burst; it reduces auto damage but his Q and E ability damage still hits you, so respect his combo cooldowns before engaging.
