Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you lose to Gragas at level 1 and 2 due to his W sustain and E poke range, but at level 3 you can look for short trades if you have stacks on your passive — without passive stacks, you still lose the extended trade because his W healing outpaces your damage.
  • Post-6, you win decisively if you can land your E stun into R reset combos, but Gragas's R can displace you out of your own combo and reset the fight, so you need to bait it before committing.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to stack your passive on minions first, then engage with Q onto a low-health minion to gap-close, immediately E to stun him, and chain Q resets through minions to extend your damage window while his W is on cooldown.
  • Avoid extended trades when his W is up, as the healing and damage reduction significantly reduce your kill pressure.

Wave Control

  • You want to shove the wave early to deny Gragas the ability to freely W-sustain under tower pressure, then reset and look for all-ins when the wave is crashing — fighting in a large wave gives you more Q reset targets and limits his ability to safely E away.
  • Avoid letting him slow-push into you, as a large wave crashing into your tower removes your Q mobility and forces you into a static fight where his W sustain wins.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not engage without passive stacks active — your damage and survivability drop dramatically without the shield and attack speed, and Gragas will simply W through your trade and come out ahead.
  • Additionally, never commit your full combo when his R is available, as a well-timed R will knock you away mid-chain and leave you overextended with your cooldowns spent.
