Who Wins

  • Pre-6, Udyr wins most short trades at levels 1-2 due to his W sustain and burst from E or Q stances, but once you hit level 3 and can land E into W tentacle slam, you can punish him if he overextends near a tentacle.
  • Post-6, your R fundamentally shifts the matchup — if you land E to pull his spirit and then R, the tentacle storm combined with the spirit damage makes him unable to fight you in that zone without burning his W healing against overwhelming DPS.

How to Trade

  • Your best pattern is to place yourself near existing tentacles, bait him into melee range, land E to extract his spirit, then immediately W-slam and R if available — the spirit takes damage from every tentacle hit, so the longer he stays in your R, the more punishing it becomes.
  • Avoid initiating without a tentacle nearby, because your damage output without tentacle support is significantly lower and Udyr's W sustain will outlast your raw Q poke.

Wave Control

  • You want to slow-push and build large waves to crash into his tower, forcing him to either take tower damage or fight you under unfavorable conditions where you have tentacles spawned nearby.
  • Avoid freezing, as Udyr can walk up and short-trade you repeatedly under your own tower where tentacle spawns are less predictable and your R is harder to use safely.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not use E blindly without a tentacle in range — missing E in this matchup is a major cooldown waste that lets Udyr freely trade back with his full stance rotation.
  • Also avoid standing still to channel Q when Udyr is in range, as he will simply walk up and punish the cast animation with a full trade before your tentacle even slams.
