Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you have a meaningful range advantage and can poke Ekko down with your damage-and-slow painting combos before he can safely engage, but be aware that at level 3 he gains the ability to dash through your skillshots and punish you if you are caught in the open without minion cover.
  • Post-6, Ekko's R fundamentally changes the dynamic — he can all-in you, take your full burst, rewind, and re-engage at full health, which means you cannot reliably kill him with a single rotation and must respect his all-in threat at all times.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to use your slow and damage-over-time paintings to zone Ekko away from the wave and force him to take poke damage whenever he walks up, then follow up with your direct damage abilities if he overextends — the goal is to whittle him down to a range where your burst can finish him before he reaches you.
  • Never let him get close enough to proc his passive shield freely; keep him at max range and use your abilities to discourage his approach rather than trading at close range where he excels.

Wave Control

  • You should prioritize waveclear and maintaining a healthy wave state, as Ekko will look to shove and roam — if you match his shove quickly, you can follow him or threaten his tower, but if you let him roam freely you will lose the map advantage your poke lane should generate.
  • Freezing the wave near your side of the lane is a strong option when Ekko is low, as it forces him to walk up into your poke range to farm and denies him a safe reset point.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not use your R as an offensive setup tool against Ekko unless he is already significantly low on health — the channel time gives him the opportunity to simply walk out of the area or use E to dodge the stun, and wasting your R means you have no follow-up damage to close out a kill.
  • Overcommitting to an all-in against Ekko when he has R available is a critical mistake, as he will simply rewind your entire burst and re-engage on you with full health while you are on cooldowns.
