Scuttle Contest
- At level 3, you lose the scuttle fight against Graves unless you have a significant HP advantage coming out of your clear — his E dash resets your E knockback, his passive armor shred and point-blank Q burst outpace your ramp-up damage at that stage.
- From level 6, you can win a 1v1 if you force the fight in an open corridor where your R approach gives you momentum stacks before he can reposition; if he has terrain to E through, he negates your engage and kites you to death.
Predicted Jungle Path
- Graves most commonly runs a Red-side start into Raptors or Krugs, then crosses to Blue-side, finishing with Gromp before contesting scuttle around 3:15–3:30.
- He may also run a full clear prioritizing his own scuttle side first if he identifies you as a weak early duelist, so expect him at river between 3:00 and 3:45 depending on his start side.
Invade or Not
- You should generally avoid invading Graves pre-6 unless you have a clear read that he started opposite side and you can catch him at his second or third camp with high HP — his short-range burst and E mobility make him extremely dangerous in tight jungle corridors where your E knockback is blocked by walls.
- If you do invade, the optimal window is around 3:45–4:15 at his red or blue buff after he has already cleared it, catching him low and without smite.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not walk into Graves in a narrow jungle corridor expecting your E to create distance — walls will cancel the knockback direction and he will simply E through you and burst you at point-blank range where his Q deals maximum damage.
- Avoid extended fights where you are stationary; your damage requires sustained movement-based stacking, and if he kites you around terrain, you deal far less than your kit implies.
