Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you lose level 1 if Cho'Gath lands Q into E, as the knockup disrupts your attack pattern before your passive healing can compensate for the burst.
  • Post-6, you have a meaningful advantage in extended trades because your R gives you ranged poke to stack damage before going in, and your W hard-counters his Q and R, but you must respect that a full Cho'Gath combo with R can still one-shot you if you are behind in HP.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to bait out his Q by walking forward, then immediately use W to dodge it, and use the 5 seconds inside your W to freely stack your passive healing and E-empowered autos on him without retaliation.
  • After his Q is on cooldown, exit your W and continue the trade, as his only reliable CC is gone and your sustained damage with passive max HP scaling will win the extended fight.

Wave Control

  • You want to avoid shoving the wave early because Cho'Gath can match your push with E and use the resulting roam timer to rotate or set up jungle ganks while you are vulnerable.
  • Keep the wave slightly on your side of the lane in the mid-game so you can always step back into your W if he engages, and use your Q to slow-push when you are ready to back or take an objective.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not use W preemptively or on a non-threatening ability, as wasting it means his Q and R will land freely and he can chunk you for a massive portion of your HP in a single rotation.
  • Your biggest mistake is trying to fight Cho'Gath when the wave is pushing toward him under his tower, as you lose the space to kite and he can use the terrain to land Q more reliably while your E dash options are limited.
