Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you win short trades at level 1 if you land Q, as the knockup into auto-E combo chunks Gwen significantly before she can stack her passive healing.
  • Post-6, you have a clear power spike with R giving you a reliable burst tool, but Gwen's W will negate your Q and R if she uses it reactively, making extended fights increasingly dangerous as she builds AP and her passive healing scales.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to poke with Q from max range to force Gwen to either take damage or waste W on a single ability, then follow up with E silence to prevent her from freely auto-attacking you during the cooldown window.
  • Avoid committing to long all-ins without your full combo available, as Gwen's passive healing and E attack speed make her win sustained fights where you're not dealing burst damage.

Wave Control

  • You want to shove the wave consistently using E and Q to maintain priority, which denies Gwen the extended 1v1 skirmish environment she needs to outscale you and forces her to farm under tower where her passive healing is less impactful.
  • Do not let the wave sit in the middle of the lane for extended periods, as that is where Gwen can freely trade with her E empowered autos and passive without you having a clear escape or punish window.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not walk into Gwen's W to try to continue a trade, as she becomes untargetable from outside and you will waste your abilities while she freely heals and attacks you.
  • Your biggest mistake is overcommitting to kills post-level 9 when Gwen has her core AP items, because her max HP damage passive and healing make her nearly unkillable in a prolonged fight even if you have a gold lead.
