Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you win short trades at level 1-3 if you can close the gap with Q and land E spin damage before she kites out, but Kai'Sa's range and W poke make it very difficult to consistently reach her without burning your Q gap-close on a bad angle.
  • Post-6, your R gives you a reliable kill threat on a low-health Kai'Sa, but she can simply disengage with her own R to reposition or escape, making your all-in dependent on her being caught without escape options.

How to Trade

  • Your best pattern is to absorb a few auto-attacks with W active to reduce her poke damage, then immediately Q in when she overextends or steps up to last-hit, chain directly into E spin, and disengage before she can stack her passive for a full burst combo.
  • Never extend the trade into a prolonged fight where she can stack her passive and activate her Q for a full clear burst on you.

Wave Control

  • You want to shove the wave quickly with E to deny her safe farming range and force her to either take tower shots or step up into your threat zone, as she struggles to farm safely under pressure without her W to poke you off.
  • Avoid slow-pushing into her because a large wave gives her free Q stacks and lets her farm safely at range while you stand there unable to reach her.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not use Q purely as a gap-close to start a trade and then find yourself in a prolonged fight with no escape tool — if she has her E evolved or R available, she can disengage, heal with lifesteal, and re-engage on her terms.
  • Burning Q offensively and missing means you have no silence to stop her W or no speed boost to chase, leaving you completely kitable.
