Who Wins

  • Pre-6, Gragas wins most extended trades due to his W passive sustain, E damage, and body-slam combo, but you can poke him with Q from range to chip his health before he can engage; post-6, your R gives you global pressure and barrel combos can burst Gragas if he overextends, but he can still body-slam your barrels and disrupt your setups, making the 1v1 roughly even with skill expression deciding it.

How to Trade

  • Your best pattern is to Q poke him repeatedly to deny his W healing efficiency, then punish him when he steps up to last-hit by placing a barrel and detonating it before he can E away; avoid letting him dictate melee range because his E-auto-W combo will outdamage your short-range trades.

Wave Control

  • Push the wave early to force him under tower, where his E engage becomes more telegraphed and easier to dodge; use barrel chains to shove efficiently and rotate or take Rift Herald, as sitting in a stagnant lane lets Gragas freely sustain back with W and negate your poke advantage.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not place barrels predictably in the same spots repeatedly, because Gragas will simply E onto the barrel to detonate it early and deny your combo while also closing the gap on you; telegraphed barrel placement is your single biggest mechanical mistake in this matchup.
