Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you lose the poke war at levels 1–2 because Locke's Q outranges your abilities and stacks marks you can't easily clear — level 3 is your first real all-in window since your E lets you dodge his E follow-up and close the gap, but you need to be at high enough health to survive his W true damage during the trade.
  • Post-6, your R fundamentally changes the matchup because landing it forces Locke to either burn E to escape the slow or take the full execution setup, and Locke's W healing is not fast enough to save him from a full R-into-E-Q burst if you're ahead.

How to Trade

  • Your best trade pattern is to bait out his E blink first by walking aggressively toward him, then using your own E to dodge his follow-up dash and reposition for a counter-trade — once his E is on cooldown, he has no reliable gap-close and you can all-in with your full combo without fearing his empowered attack consuming Q stacks on you.
  • If he has Q stacks on you already, do not walk in for a melee trade; instead use E to hop over his position and reset the engagement angle so his empowered attack dash whiffs.

Wave Control

  • Push the wave hard and look to roam, because Locke's wave clear without E is slow and he cannot follow your roams without burning his only mobility tool.
  • Shoving also forces him to farm under tower where his Q poke is less threatening to you, and denies him the open-lane space he needs to safely stack Q marks before an all-in.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not use your E purely as an escape tool when Locke activates W — his W lets him recast through CC, so even if you knock him up with R he can still recast W for healing, meaning you need to kill him during the W duration rather than poking and backing off.
  • Mistiming your all-in by going in while he has 3 Q stacks already on you is the most common way to lose this matchup, as the consumed stack burst during his E dash will chunk you before your own combo resolves.
