Who Wins

  • Pre-6, Azir wins the 1v1 at every early level due to his range advantage and soldier poke keeping you low before you can close the gap; you need to wait for a moment where he overextends a soldier or mispositions before committing, as raw all-ins before level 6 are heavily punished by his sustained damage.
  • Post-6, you win the 1v1 decisively if you can land your R on him outside his soldier range, as your burst combo outpaces his damage output and your E makes his R knockback largely irrelevant if timed correctly.

How to Trade

  • Your optimal trade pattern is to use Q to close the gap through minions, immediately E onto him to dodge his soldier auto-attacks, then W and ignite to maximize burst before he can reposition his soldiers or use his R to escape.
  • Never trade from a distance or in a straight line, as his soldiers will shred you before you reach him; the entire pattern depends on entering his hitbox faster than his soldiers can react.

Wave Control

  • You want to crash waves quickly and look for roams, as you cannot reliably win extended lane trades and sitting in the lane gives Azir free poke and scaling time.
  • Use your mobility to roam bot or top after shoving, since Azir's wave clear is strong enough to punish you if you stay and contest every wave without kill pressure.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not use your E purely defensively to dodge his R knockback if you haven't committed your full combo yet, as burning E early leaves you with no gap-close and he will simply re-engage with soldiers from safety.
  • Wasting your E on a single ability rather than weaving it into your full burst rotation is the most common reason Fizz players lose this matchup even when they have kill pressure.
