Who Wins

  • Pre-6, Irelia wins most extended trades once she has 3+ stacks on her passive, and her level 3 all-in with Q resets is lethal if you're caught without E distance; you win short poke trades with Q but cannot match her sustained damage in a full fight.
  • Post-6, your R gives you a meaningful power spike with the shield and rewind, but Irelia's R lockdown and true damage can still kill you if she lands it cleanly before you can reset — you need to be ahead to confidently win post-6.

How to Trade

  • Your best pattern is to land Q on the wave and let the slow proc hit Irelia, then auto-W-auto for a short burst trade before immediately backing off with E; never commit to a full trade unless your passive shield is ready, as it absorbs a significant chunk of her burst.
  • Avoid trading when she has 4 passive stacks, as her attack speed and sustain through Q resets will outdamage you in any extended exchange.

Wave Control

  • Push the wave consistently with Q to deny her Q reset farming and force her to use abilities on minions rather than on you; a frozen wave near your tower is dangerous because she can all-in you with tower aggro absorbed by her passive.
  • Ideally, maintain a slow push to keep the wave in a state where she cannot safely reset Q on minions without taking poke from you.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not use E aggressively as your primary gap-close into her — it is your only escape tool and if she R's you mid-dash or you land inside her range with no follow-up, you will die with no way out.
  • Saving E for her R or for disengaging a losing trade is the single most important discipline in this matchup.
