Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you win this lane clearly through range, sustained E damage, and the fact that Fizz's all-in requires him to close distance through your poke first; at level 2 you can start stacking E damage whenever he steps up, and he has no reliable way to trade back without taking significant chip damage.
  • Post-6, the matchup becomes more volatile because his R can disrupt your positioning and force a bad fight, but if you respect his engage range and maintain distance, your sustained damage output still favors you in a prolonged fight.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to land Q to apply poison, then immediately spam E to stack damage while he is slowed, forcing him to either take the full trade or burn his E to disengage — both outcomes are favorable for you.
  • Avoid standing close enough for him to Q onto you without warning; keep him at the outer edge of your E range so you can react to his approach.

Wave Control

  • You want to control the wave by slow-pushing or freezing near your tower, which forces Fizz to walk up into your poke range to farm and denies him safe roam windows.
  • Do not shove the wave blindly, as that gives him free roam opportunities and removes the pressure you create by making him farm under threat of your E.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not panic-R when Fizz jumps on you — his E makes him untargetable briefly, and if you R during that window you waste your ultimate and are now in a losing fight with no peel.
  • Additionally, avoid overextending without vision when Fizz is missing, as his roam threat is significant and your lack of mobility makes you an easy target for a returning Fizz with R available.
