Who Wins
- Pre-6, you win short-to-medium trades at level 1 and 2 with W active because your healing and damage output exceed Darius's before he builds passive stacks, but at level 3 Darius gains E which lets him pull you back into his Q and passive range, making extended fights riskier for you if you don't control the trade length.
- Post-6, your R gives you a gap-close and reset potential that can punish a low-health Darius, but his R will kill you if he has full passive stacks and you are below roughly 40% HP, so never let him reach that state before you commit.
How to Trade
- Engage with W active to maximize your healing and damage uptime, look to bite with E to close distance and keep Darius from kiting you, and disengage before his passive reaches 5 stacks — the goal is to win the attrition war by healing back damage between trades rather than going all-in at full HP.
- Re-engage after his E is on cooldown since that is his only reliable way to pull you back into his bleed range.
Wave Control
- You want the wave in a slow push toward Darius or a freeze near your side of the lane, as this forces him to walk up and take trades on your terms without minion aggro protecting him; avoid hard shoving because a crashed wave gives Darius free recall and item advantage while removing your all-in threat.
- Use your W to help clear when needed but prioritize using it in trades over waveclear to maintain your health advantage.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Never fight Darius when his passive is at 5 stacks and your HP is below 50% — his R will execute you and there is no counterplay once he lands it.
- Do not use your R carelessly as an engage tool into Darius at full health, as landing near him with your R while he has E available gives him a free pull into full combo, which is one of the most common ways Briar players die in this matchup.
