Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you win most extended trades if you can land your full Q-dash combo into E, as Zilean has no reliable escape and your burst pattern outpaces his damage output; however, his W slow and Q stun setup can punish you hard if you dash in recklessly and get caught in a double-bomb stun.
  • Post-6, your R makes you nearly unkillable in extended fights, but Zilean's R directly counters your kill pressure — if he uses R on himself or an ally, your all-in window collapses entirely and you've likely burned resources for nothing.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to bait out his Q before engaging — dash in with Q only after his Q is on cooldown or has missed, then chain E into auto-attacks to maximize your passive stacks and burst window before he can land a second bomb.
  • Avoid short trades where he can land one Q, slow you with W, and walk away safely; you need to commit to a full extended trade where your sustained damage and mobility outvalue his poke.

Wave Control

  • You want to push the wave consistently to deny him safe poke under tower and force him to use his mana on wave clear rather than harassing you; Zilean's wave clear is mana-intensive and he struggles to both clear and poke efficiently.
  • Crashing waves and diving into his jungle or roaming mid is highly effective since Zilean has no mobility to follow, and his R cannot save him from a coordinated dive.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not dash onto him when his Q is already placed on you — waiting for the second bomb while closing distance means you eat a stun mid-trade and lose the exchange entirely.
  • Also avoid all-inning him at 6 without vision of his R cooldown; burning your R into his R is a wasted ultimate and resets the kill pressure dynamic back to zero.
