Scuttle Contest
- At level 3, you lose the scuttle fight against Graves unless you land your E dash aggressively to close the gap and chain your Q procs efficiently — Graves' passive armor and his W smoke screen will heavily reduce your damage window, and his burst at close range still trades favorably.
- From level 6, you can win a 1v1 if you bait out his E dash first, then engage with your own E to stay on top of him, as your R gives you sustained melee pressure that Graves struggles to kite once he's committed his repositioning tool.
Predicted Jungle Path
- Graves most commonly runs a full clear starting Red Buff side, pathing Red → Raptors → Blue → Gromp, or the mirror path on the opposite side, prioritizing a level 3 or level 4 scuttle contest.
- He will look to invade your jungle or contest scuttle early if he senses a path advantage, and he tends to avoid extended fights in tight jungle corridors where he can't reposition safely.
Invade or Not
- You should invade Graves at his second or third camp around the 3:15–3:45 minute mark if you have vision of his starting side — specifically targeting his Blue or Red buff when he's low from clearing, as he is vulnerable without his E available.
- Avoid invading his first clear buff directly, as he will be healthy and his burst at close range before you have items is punishing even for a melee fighter like you.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not walk into his W smoke screen and then try to all-in — his blind does not simply 'miss' your abilities, but it severely reduces your auto-attack damage output which is critical for your Q proc resets, effectively gutting your sustained damage pattern mid-fight.
- Chasing Graves through jungle walls after he uses E to reposition is also a common mistake, as he can turn immediately after the dash and burst you at point-blank range while you're out of position.
