Who Wins
- Pre-6, you lose a straight all-in against a fully passive-stacked Irelia at most levels, as her Q reset chain with true damage and W damage reduction will outdamage your burst if she can stick to you.
- Post-6, your R fundamentally changes the matchup by giving you two dashes and an untargetable phase, allowing you to engage, deal damage, and disengage before Irelia can complete her combo, shifting the kill pressure heavily in your favor.
How to Trade
- Your best trading pattern is to poke with your Q to apply your passive mark, then E in to consume it and immediately W to deny Irelia's follow-up, retreating before she can stack her passive and chain Q resets.
- Post-6, use your first R charge to engage, deal your full combo, and use the second R charge as an escape tool rather than burning both offensively.
Wave Control
- You want to push the wave efficiently with your Q to maintain priority for roaming, as your R mobility makes mid-lane and bot-lane roams extremely threatening and is where you generate most of your lead against Irelia.
- Avoid letting the wave freeze under Irelia's tower, because she will stack passive on the frozen wave and you will be forced to either lose CS or walk into a fully-stacked all-in.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not use your W reactively as a panic button when Irelia E's onto you without a clear exit path planned, because if she has already landed her stun your shroud will not prevent the stun damage and she will simply wait at the shroud edge for you to exit.
- Proper W usage requires placing it so that the exit direction puts distance between you and Irelia, not just activating it in place.
