Who Wins

  • Pre-6, Zed has a significant advantage at levels 1-2 because his poke is ranged and he takes no return damage, but once you hit level 3 and have all three Q stages available, you can threaten all-ins if he overextends for poke.
  • Post-6, your R dramatically shifts the matchup in extended fights since the healing and AD boost let you sustain through his burst and outlast him, especially if he wastes his R shadow before you pop yours.

How to Trade

  • Force trades when Zed has already used his E or is on cooldown, walking up to bait his shadow placement before committing your Q chain — if he drops his shadow aggressively, punish him with a full Q1-Q2-Q3 combo using E to reposition into sweet spots.
  • Avoid short trades where he can poke and disengage freely; you need to lock him down with W to prevent him from dashing back to his shadow and escaping.

Wave Control

  • Push the wave early to deny him the ability to safely poke you under tower pressure, as Zed struggles to all-in when the wave is crashing and he risks tower aggro.
  • Once you have R, consider freezing near your tower to bait him into diving or overextending, where your sustain and R make you nearly unkillable in a prolonged fight.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Never use all three Q stages without landing at least one sweet spot, because whiffing your combo leaves you with no damage, no healing, and no threat while Zed can freely reposition and punish your cooldowns.
  • Do not try to fight him at max range poking back — you will always lose that exchange; commit fully or disengage, as half-measures give him free damage with no consequence.
