Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you have a meaningful level 3 spike when your full Q rotation becomes available, but Locke can stack Q marks safely from range and punish your E-in attempts with W-E burst before you land a sweet spot — you do not win early trades cleanly unless you land the outer Q hitbox.
  • Post-6, your R dramatically shifts the matchup by granting enough healing and AD to sustain through Locke's burst combo, and if you can absorb the W-E all-in and stay alive, your extended damage output and omnivamp will outlast Locke's short damage window.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to bait out Locke's E blink first, since that is the primary gap-closer and damage tool — once it is on cooldown, walk up and force a full Q1-Q2-Q3 combo with E repositioning to land sweet spots, as Locke has no reliable escape after E is spent.
  • Avoid initiating into a fully stacked Q mark situation; let Locke throw Q first, then close the gap while the slow decays so you enter the trade on your terms rather than Locke's.

Wave Control

  • Push the wave consistently to deny Locke the safe poke range they prefer, because Locke wants a slow, passive lane where Q stacks can be applied freely — a fast-pushing Aatrox forces Locke to either fight under tower or lose CS.
  • When the wave is frozen near your tower, Locke's R totem placement becomes more dangerous since you are forced into a confined space; prioritize shoving to neutralize that zoning threat.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not use E aggressively to close distance on Locke when W is active, because Locke can recast W to heal a significant portion of the true damage taken while simultaneously having E available to disengage or reposition — you will have burned your repositioning tool and Locke will have recovered health.
  • Respect the W-E-passive burst window; if you see W activate, back off briefly rather than committing to a full trade, as the true damage plus on-hit passive scaling on missing health means Locke's damage accelerates the lower you are.
