Who Wins
- You win pre-6 through superior range and poke potential, as Katarina has no reliable gap closer and must walk up for CS.
- Post-6 the matchup shifts heavily in Katarina's favor since her R can instantly delete you if she gets in range, and your E becomes much harder to land on a mobile target.
How to Trade
- Your optimal trading pattern involves using Q through minions for extended range poke, then immediately backing off to avoid retaliation.
- Never try to extended trade with autos or W follow-up unless Katarina has already used her E, as she can instantly gap close and out-damage you in melee range.
Wave Control
- You want to maintain a slow push or freeze near your tower to keep Katarina at maximum range while still being able to poke her.
- Avoid hard shoving unless you can immediately recall, as being pushed up makes you extremely vulnerable to her all-in potential and jungle ganks.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Never waste your E on minions or use it predictively when Katarina has her E available, as this is your only self-peel tool.
- Missing E against Katarina post-6 is essentially a death sentence since she can immediately engage with E-W-R combo.
