LaneDiff costs me $50/month to run. If it helped you win a lane, a small tip keeps it alive. 💙

Who Wins
- Pre-6, Vel'Koz's longer range and consistent poke with his Q and E force you to play reactively; you cannot reliably all-in him early because your Q heal is insufficient to offset sustained poke damage, and you lack the burst to punish him before he repositions.
- Post-6, your R gives you enough sustain and damage to force a real fight, but Vel'Koz's R deals enormous damage in a short window, so you still need to respect his kill potential even after your power spike.
How to Trade
- Your best trading pattern is to absorb a poke ability with W to negate its damage, then immediately close the gap and land Q followed by E to proc the slow and force him to burn his W or take significant damage.
- Extended trades favor you as your passive stacks and Q sustain accumulate, but you must avoid standing in his E plasma field during the trade or the true damage passive will erase your health advantage.
Wave Control
- You want to shove the wave consistently to deny him free poke angles under tower pressure, as he struggles to waveclear safely at close range and is forced to use abilities that put him in your threat range.
- Crashing waves also creates roam windows where your W makes you harder to track and punish in river skirmishes.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not pool W reactively to dodge a single Q knockup and then immediately re-engage into his full combo; his cooldowns reset faster than your W, and walking back into his E and auto-attack passive stacks after W ends is one of the most common ways to die in this matchup.
