LaneDiff costs me $50/month to run. If it helped you win a lane, a small tip keeps it alive. 💙

Who Wins
- Pre-6, you lose any trade where Garen reaches you before your W stacks, because his Q silence completely shuts down your ability to use Q reactively for the shield and Discharge, and his raw damage output at close range exceeds yours in short windows.
- Your W is the single ability that makes this matchup survivable early — placing it proactively in his engage path, not reactively after he is already on you, is the difference between winning and losing the trade.
- Post-6, you do not win a straight 1v1 against a healthy Garen unless your R is augmented and you can keep him inside the storm while he is already low, as his R will delete you faster than your damage ramps up.
How to Trade
- Your best trading pattern is to use W as a pre-emptive zone tool to force Garen to either walk through it and get stunned or take a longer path that gives you time to land E and auto-attacks safely from range.
- Never commit to a trade without W available, and use your E augment aftershock to deal damage even after you start retreating, as the delayed explosion hits him while you are already moving away.
Wave Control
- You want to maintain a slow push or freeze near your side of the lane to keep Garen from freely walking up to you, since a pushed wave means he can engage under your tower where your W escape angles are limited.
- Prioritize last-hitting for Hex Fragments over aggressive positioning — your augments are a significant power multiplier and falling behind on fragments because you took bad trades is a strategic loss even if you survive the trade itself.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not place your W directly on top of yourself as a panic reaction when Garen is already in Q range, because the stacks require time to build and he will have already silenced and damaged you before the stun triggers.
- Additionally, avoid using your R offensively on a healthy Garen in a 1v1 context expecting it to kill him — the storm deals damage over time and he will simply R you back while tanking it, and his R will likely kill you before the storm kills him.
