Who Wins
- You win pre-6 through superior sustain and base damage, with level 2 being particularly strong when you get Q+W for guaranteed trades.
- Post-6 you maintain advantage as your R provides massive damage and utility while Irelia's R doesn't fundamentally change her ability to deal with your tankiness.
How to Trade
- Look for Q poke when Irelia goes for CS, then immediately W yourself to absorb her retaliation and heal back up.
- When she commits with Q, let her stack on minions then engage with Q slow into W swallow for extended trades where your sustain advantage shines.
Wave Control
- Push early levels to establish lane priority and deny Irelia easy minion stacks for her passive.
- After first back, maintain a slow push or freeze near your tower to force Irelia to overextend for CS where you can punish with your full combo.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Don't waste W defensively too early in trades as it's your main damage tool and escape mechanism.
- Avoid fighting in large minion waves where Irelia can easily stack her passive and Q reset through multiple targets to extend trades.
