Scuttle Contest

  • At level 3, you lose the scuttle fight against Jarvan IV if he lands his E+Q knockup, as your damage output before level 6 is lower and you have no reliable way to interrupt his combo once it is initiated.
  • From level 6 onward, you win the 1v1 if you bait out his E+Q, dodge or absorb it with your E chain, then steal his R and use it to trap him, following up with your full combo while he has no ultimate available.

Predicted Jungle Path

  • Jarvan IV typically runs a standard full clear starting Red Buff, pathing Red > Raptors > Blue > Gromp or the reverse, and looks for early level 3 ganks on lanes with CC or push.
  • He will frequently contest scuttle at 3:15 and look to counterjungle your side after securing it, so track his starting position and anticipate his path accordingly.

Invade or Not

  • You should generally avoid invading Jarvan IV before level 6, as his E+Q knockup into W slow is a reliable all-in tool that punishes you in tight jungle corridors where your E chain has limited angles.
  • After level 6, if you have stolen a strong R from a nearby enemy champion, you can look to invade his jungle and force a fight on your terms, particularly when his E or Q is on cooldown.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not waste your E chain as a pure engage tool before confirming Jarvan IV has used his E+Q, as arriving in melee range without your E available leaves you with no escape if his combo is still up.
  • Avoid stealing his R and immediately using it in a way that traps yourself, as Jarvan IV's R is designed to benefit the user only when the enemy is caught inside it, not the caster.
