Who Wins
- Pre-6, you win this matchup at level 1 and 2 because your W shield absorbs a significant portion of Zaahen's early damage output and your raw base stats outclass his before he builds Determination stacks; at level 3 you need to respect his E-Q combo as a burst of healing and damage that can shift a short trade in his favor, but a fully charged W into auto-attack trades still favors you.
- Post-6, the matchup becomes more dangerous because his R gives him a reliable engage and his passive revive means killing him once is not enough — you need to either burst him before the revive triggers or disengage after his first death to avoid fighting a refreshed opponent.
How to Trade
- Your best trading pattern is to walk up and bait his E by standing just outside its range, then immediately channel W when he commits — if he dashes into the outer edge, he takes damage but your shield absorbs his follow-up Q hits and you can release W for a large burst.
- After the W explosion, auto-attack trade aggressively since your passive HP stacks give you more effective HP than he can sustain through, and his Determination stacks reset slowly enough that short burst windows favor you.
Wave Control
- You want to slow-push the wave by last-hitting and occasionally using Q to build a large minion wave, then crash it into his tower to deny him CS and force him to choose between farming under tower or fighting you in an unfavorable position.

- Additionally, do not ignore his passive revive timer in all-in situations; if you burn his revive, back off immediately rather than trying to finish him, because fighting a revived Zaahen with your cooldowns spent is how you lose a winning matchup.
