Who Wins

  • You win pre-6 through superior range, wave control, and sustain from your W shield.
  • Post-6 you still maintain advantage as Yi lacks reliable gap closers to consistently engage on you, and your R provides strong disengage or engage potential.

How to Trade

  • Use Q from fog of war or after Yi commits Q to minions, as he cannot dodge it while in Alpha Strike animation.
  • Follow up with E slow and auto attacks, then disengage with W shield to absorb his retaliation damage.

Wave Control

  • Push waves early with Q and E to establish lane priority and roam timing advantages.
  • Maintain slow pushes to build large waves that Yi cannot match clear, forcing him to farm under tower where he's vulnerable to ganks.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Never use Q predictably when Yi has Alpha Strike available, as he can easily dodge it and gap close for extended trades.
  • Avoid face-checking bushes without vision as Yi can surprise engage with Q and run you down with his superior sustained damage.
