Who Wins

  • Pre-6, Olaf wins most extended trades due to his W sustain and true damage from E stacking with attack speed; you can contest short trades by using Q to poke and immediately stepping back behind your W spirit blade, but you cannot match him in a prolonged fight.
  • Post-6, your R does not make you win the 1v1 — Olaf's R removes your taunt entirely, so he can freely ignore your E and continue fighting you on his terms, meaning he still wins or goes even in extended duels.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to position your W spirit blade at max range, auto-attack to proc Q damage, then immediately walk back through the blade to trigger its shield and disengage before Olaf can stack his E or use W to sustain through your damage.
  • Never commit to a full trade without your W shield active, as your base damage and sustain are both lower than Olaf's in a straight exchange.

Wave Control

  • Push the wave consistently using Q to last-hit and poke simultaneously, then look to freeze or slow-push to deny Olaf farm under tower, since he has no reliable wave clear tool and is forced to take bad trades or lose CS.
  • A slow-push into a dive threat is risky because Olaf excels at all-ins, so prioritize building a large wave to crash and roam with your R rather than trying to win the lane outright.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not use your E aggressively to taunt Olaf when he has his R active — it will be completely wasted and you will have burned your only hard CC with no payoff, leaving you vulnerable.
  • Avoid standing in melee range without your W spirit blade nearby, as without the shield proc you have no defensive tool to survive his burst and sustain combination.
