Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you win levels 1-2 cleanly because your W negates a large portion of Irelia's Q damage and your E taunt into auto-attack pattern outdamages her without passive stacks; at level 3 she becomes more dangerous if she has stacked passive, so respect her all-in potential and use W reactively rather than proactively.
  • Post-6, you are favored in the 1v1 because your R gives you a safety net to disengage or bait her into overcommitting, and your W continues to be the primary tool that invalidates her damage pattern.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to use E to taunt Irelia when she steps up, then auto-attack through your W to maximize the energy return from Q while her damage is absorbed by the shield; short trades where you land E and get 3-4 autos inside W are consistently winning trades for you.
  • Avoid letting her stack passive freely on minions — zone her from the wave or force her to take poke when she tries to Q minions near you.

Wave Control

  • You want to play a slow, controlled wave that stays near the center of the lane or slightly on your side, as this denies Irelia the ability to freely Q minions to stack passive without taking your E threat.
  • Do not shove blindly into her tower because a bouncing wave gives her free passive stacks and lets her all-in you with full marks; a frozen or slow-pushed wave is far more punishing for her kit.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not use your R reactively the moment Irelia hits level 6 — save it for a meaningful bot lane play or a situation where your ADC is in genuine danger, because wasting R just to escape a losing trade in lane removes your primary global impact tool.
