Who Wins

  • Pre-6 you win this lane convincingly: your W damage reduction and E slow let you stick to Anivia and trade favorably, and she has no reliable escape if you land E before she can Q you; at level 2 you can already run her down with E into W overheat trades that she cannot match in damage or durability.
  • Post-6 the matchup becomes more dangerous because her R combined with E wall creates a zone you cannot easily walk out of, and your short range means you are often forced to fight inside her ultimate — respect her setup potential and avoid fighting in chokepoints.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to lead with E to slow her and prevent her from walking out of your range, then activate W immediately to gain the shield and bonus damage, and finish with overheat auto attacks that deal significant bonus magic damage; if she tries to Q you, sidestep or absorb it with W shield and continue the trade.
  • Short, aggressive burst trades favor you heavily — do not let her reset with E wall or drag the fight into a prolonged exchange where her R outscales your sustained output.

Wave Control

  • You want to control the wave by pushing it in with your E and overheat autos to deny her safe farming and force her to either take poke or lose CS under tower; a pushed wave also lets you roam or set up dives, where your R is far more impactful in a 2v1 than hers.
  • When behind, do not hard shove — instead slow-push to build a large wave and crash it, then back safely, because standing in an open lane against her post-6 is a losing proposition.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not walk into her E wall blindly when she has R active — you will be trapped inside her ultimate with no way to exit, and your short range means you take the full duration of damage while being unable to retaliate effectively.
  • Avoid wasting your R in lane for small trades; your R is a teamfight and zone-control tool, and using it to secure a single kill in lane often costs you more in macro value than you gain.
