Who Wins
- Pre-6 you win convincingly at levels 1 and 2 by using brush to reset your passive and landing empowered Q trades before Aatrox can complete his Q animation, and at level 3 you can stack ferocity quickly enough to all-in him if he is low on E charges.
- Post-6 the matchup becomes significantly harder because his R healing combined with sweet-spot Q damage can sustain through your burst if the fight extends, and his W can catch you after your leap lands, removing your escape option entirely.
How to Trade
- Your best trading pattern is to use brush to generate a ferocity stack, then leap with empowered Q into Aatrox when he steps up to CS, immediately using your E to slow him and prevent him from landing his Q sweet spot on you.
- Short trades where you deal your burst and immediately disengage are essential because staying in melee range lets him chain all three Q stages with E repositioning, which will out-sustain your damage through his omnivamp.
Wave Control
- Avoid pushing the wave because a shoved wave removes your brush access and forces you to trade in the open where Aatrox's Q sweet spot is far easier to land without the pressure of your surprise engage.
- Keep the wave slightly on your side near your own brush so you can repeatedly reset ferocity stacks between trades and maintain the threat of an all-in without overcommitting.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not use your leap to engage when Aatrox has all three Q charges available and his E up, because he can E into your landing position and immediately hit the sweet spot of his first Q before you can disengage, and the subsequent chain will delete you if you have no escape.
- Patience in waiting for him to waste Q charges on the wave or misposition before engaging is the difference between winning and losing this lane.
