Who Wins
- Pre-6, you lose most extended trades against Garen because his W passive shreds your armor and his Q silence prevents you from repositioning with E during the trade window; post-6, your R gives you a gap-close assassination tool but Garen's R executes you faster if you're below half health, so the 1v1 remains unfavorable unless you're significantly ahead.
How to Trade
- Your best trading pattern is to use Q to knock up Garen during his Q dash animation or immediately after, then E out before his W fully stacks — short burst trades only, never extended fights where his W passive and Q silence control the pace.
Wave Control
- You want to push the wave fast using Q on minions to force Garen to either take poke or lose CS, then back off to deny him the sustained melee pressure he needs; never let the wave sit in the middle where he can freely walk up and run you down with Q.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not tunnel into extended trades thinking your burrowed W sustain will out-heal his damage — Garen's damage output in a full trade far exceeds what your W regeneration can compensate for, and staying in melee range gives him full control of the fight duration.
