Who Wins
- Pre-6, you have a meaningful edge at level 3 when your full combo (Q into E auto reset) comes online, as Locke needs time to stack Q marks before trading efficiently and you can burst him before he builds stacks.
- Post-6, the matchup becomes significantly harder because Locke's R can execute you at a health threshold that punishes your dive-in playstyle, and his W's true damage punishes you for extended trades you might think you're winning.
How to Trade
- Your best trading pattern is to engage only when Locke has zero Q stacks on you — wait for him to waste Q on the wave, then immediately Q onto an element, E in, auto, and disengage before he can reapply stacks and use E-W to cash in.
- Never let him land three Q stacks before you commit, because his E-W all-in with full stacks will outdamage your burst at most points in the game.
Wave Control
- Push the wave hard early to deny Locke the safe space he needs to stack Q on you from range, as a shoved wave forces him to focus CS rather than poke.
- However, avoid overextending past the wave when it's near his tower, because his E blink plus W gives him strong all-in potential even under tower if you're marked.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not engage on Locke when his W is available and you are below roughly 60% health, because his passive bonus magic damage scales with your missing health and his W true damage will accelerate your health loss faster than you expect.
- Many Qiyana players misread a winning trade mid-combo because the true damage and passive scaling hit simultaneously, turning a confident all-in into a death.
