Who Wins
- Pre-6 you lose most direct trades against Volibear — his E armor shred, Q gap close, and W burst outpace your damage at early stacks, so you must use W defensively to survive his all-ins rather than to initiate.
- Post-6 your R changes the equation significantly by giving you enough HP, resistances, and empowered Q damage that you can fight back, especially if you have 150+ stacks by that point.
How to Trade
- Your best pattern is to W immediately when he engages to cripple his attack speed, then use E to slow him and land stacked Qs — you are not looking to kill him early, you are looking to make his trades unprofitable so he backs off and you continue stacking.
Wave Control
- You want the wave frozen or slow-pushed near your tower as much as possible to safely stack Q with tower protection — if Volibear crashes waves into your tower, prioritize last-hitting under tower over fighting him, and only engage when your W is available and his Q is on cooldown.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not use your W aggressively as an opener when you are behind on stacks or health — it is your primary defensive tool against his burst pattern, and burning it to initiate a trade you cannot win leaves you completely exposed to his full combo with no way to reduce his damage.
