Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you are weak at levels 1-2 because your passive shield is your only real defensive tool and Kled's W-empowered autos can chunk you before it regenerates; however, once you reach level 3 and begin stacking armor, Kled's damage drops sharply and you start winning most trades passively.
  • Post-6, your R completely changes the dynamic — you can either use it defensively to interrupt Kled's R charge or offensively to lock him down dismounted, and a dismounted Kled with no Courage built is essentially a free kill if you have follow-up.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to take short trades, let your passive shield absorb Kled's burst, then back off and let it regenerate before re-engaging; Kled needs extended trades to win, so denying him that by walking in and out of range with your superior tankiness is your primary tool.
  • When Kled is dismounted, immediately commit to a full trade since his bonus resistances from passive are not enough to survive your full combo, and he cannot remount until he builds Courage from minion kills.

Wave Control

  • You want to freeze or slow-push the wave near your side of the lane to force Kled to overextend for CS, making him vulnerable to your jungler and limiting his ability to use E aggressively without trading position.
  • Malphite is a strong freeze champion because Kled has no reliable waveclear to break it, and a frozen wave near your tower means Kled is constantly in danger while you safely farm and stack armor.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not waste your R early in the lane just to win a trade — your R is your primary teamfight tool and using it for a solo kill that isn't guaranteed, especially against a tanky Kled who can remount, is a significant strategic mistake.
  • Also avoid standing in extended auto-attack range when Kled has his W proc ready, as underestimating his burst window before your armor items come online is the most common way to lose early trades you should be winning.
