Who Wins

  • Pre-6, you lose almost every extended trade against Heimerdinger because his turrets, W, and E combined deal far more sustained damage than your Q poke can offset, and your armor scaling only matters if you can actually survive long enough to stack it.
  • Post-6, your R fundamentally changes the matchup — a clean R onto Heimerdinger under or near his turrets is one of the most punishing all-ins in the game, and he has very limited tools to escape or survive the burst if you land it.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to use Q to maintain your armor buff passively and poke from max range, then only commit to a full trade when your R is available and Heimerdinger has burned his E or is out of position.
  • Never walk into his turret cluster without R, as the combined turret and ability damage will shred you before you can deal meaningful damage.

Wave Control

  • You want to push the wave quickly using E and W to crash it, then back off to avoid standing in his turret zone — a frozen or slow-pushed wave forces you to walk into his setup repeatedly, which is where he wins.
  • Prioritize crashing waves and backing rather than fighting for lane dominance pre-6, accepting a passive lane until your R spike.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not attempt extended trades or all-ins pre-6 thinking your armor makes you tanky enough — Heimerdinger's turrets ignore your passive armor scaling in the sense that the sustained DPS overwhelms your regeneration and you will lose the war of attrition.
  • Walking into his turret cluster without R is the single biggest mistake you can make in this lane.
