Who Wins

  • Pre-6 you are weaker than Riven in a straight all-in — she can close the gap through your Q slow with her own dashes and her burst at level 3 outpaces your W healing if she commits fully.
  • Post-6 the matchup shifts significantly in your favor because your R creates a kill zone that punishes Riven's natural dive pattern, and your passive missing-health damage means the lower she gets the more dangerous staying near you becomes for her.

How to Trade

  • Your best trading pattern is to land two to three Q stacks on Riven from range before she can engage, then use E to blink onto her and immediately activate W — the true damage from W combined with your E dash consuming nail stacks and your passive on-hit damage creates a burst window that Riven's shield cannot fully absorb.
  • If she tries to disengage mid-trade, your W movement speed lets you chase briefly, but don't overextend; let the passive missing-health scaling do the work as she retreats.

Wave Control

  • Play for poke and stack accumulation rather than early all-ins — use Q to harass Riven whenever she goes for CS, building stacks and forcing her to respect your range advantage.
  • Once she's around 60-70% health with stacks on her, your E all-in becomes a genuine kill threat especially post-6 when your R execution threshold is in play, so wave state matters less than health leads in this matchup.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not activate W preemptively before Riven commits her full combo — she can disengage after seeing W activate, wasting your healing window and leaving you taking true damage for nothing.
  • Additionally, avoid using E purely as an escape tool when Riven is low, because the reset on takedown is your strongest outplay mechanic and burning it defensively throws away kill potential in a matchup where you need to be the one dictating when the fight ends.
