Who Wins
- Pre-6, you win short trades by poking with Q from range and using E to disengage when Sion tries to close the gap, but Sion's W shield absorbs a significant portion of your burst if he activates it preemptively, making all-ins risky before you have enough items.
- Post-6, you can outplay Sion by using R on yourself to dodge his R or his W explosion, then re-engaging with E and Q to finish him, but his passive means you must secure the kill before he dies or he will kill you anyway.
How to Trade
- Your best pattern is to poke with Q at max range to chip Sion's HP below his W shield threshold, then commit to a full combo only when his W is on cooldown, using E to close or escape and R defensively if he lands his Q stun.
- Never trade when his W is fully charged, as it will absorb your combo and he will burst you back with the detonation.
Wave Control
- You want to push the wave consistently with Q to deny Sion the slow-push setup he needs, because if you let him build a large cannon wave he can crash it and roam or dive you under tower.
- Shoving also forces him to last-hit under tower where his Q windup is more predictable and easier to punish.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not use R offensively to engage on Sion unless his W is confirmed on cooldown and he is already low, because his passive will activate on death and his W can still detonate during it, killing you while he is technically dead.
- Burning R as an escape tool or to dodge his R is almost always the higher-value use in this matchup.
