Who Wins
- Pre-6: You win short trades with Q-W combo due to superior range and burst damage, especially levels 1-3 before Ryze gets multiple ability points.
- Post-6: You lose extended 1v1s against his sustained damage, but can still win with perfect R engage into full combo if you catch him without his passive stacks up.
How to Trade
- Use Q to poke and proc Electrocute when possible, then immediately W-Q for burst damage before backing off to avoid his E-W root retaliation.
- Save your E for escaping his all-in attempts or gap-closing for kills, not for poke trades.
Wave Control
- Match his E-Q waveclear with your Q and look for roam timings when he's low on mana or backing, as you have better early game impact.
- Keep waves in neutral positions to avoid his E-Q poke while maintaining your Q range advantage.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Don't waste your W defensively too early in trades since it's your main damage tool and crowd control - Ryze will capitalize on the cooldown window.
- Avoid extended fights after level 6 unless you have a significant health advantage, as his sustained DPS with passive stacks will outdamage your burst rotation.
