- You lose all-ins pre-6 due to Maokai's Q knockback disrupting your kiting and his W root guaranteeing extended trades.
- Post-6 you win 1v1s once you have items and can maintain distance, as your range and DPS outscale his burst combo.
How to Trade
- Trade with E-empowered autos when Maokai uses Q on minions, then immediately back off before he can W engage on you.
- Never commit to extended trades pre-6 as his base damages and CC chain will always win.
Wave Control
- Push early levels to get priority and recall timing, then freeze near your tower once Maokai gets kill threat.
- You want to avoid long lanes where he can run you down with W-Q combo.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Don't greed for CS when your E is down and Maokai has W available, as he can easily all-in you without your movement speed.
- Never face-check bushes after level 3 since his E saplings provide too much zone control and setup.
