Who Wins
- Pre-6, Illaoi wins every extended trade and most short trades due to her E tentacle damage, W healing, and your lack of meaningful damage or range advantage at early levels; post-6, you gain ranged safety and your R makes you unkillable during its duration, but Illaoi's R can still kill you if she lands E first and you're caught in tentacle range.
How to Trade
- Your best trading pattern is to Q Illaoi to slow her, auto her from max range to poke, and immediately back out before she can land E or W — never commit to extended trades until you have R and significant AP, as her sustain will outlast your damage in prolonged fights.
Wave Control
- Push the wave consistently to deny her the space to set up tentacles near you; a frozen wave near her tower is dangerous because tentacles spawn on terrain and she can E you into a cluster of them, so keeping the wave moving toward her tower limits her environmental advantage.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Never fight her when her E is up and a tentacle is nearby — this is the single most common way Kayle players die in this matchup, as the tentacle slam plus her W healing plus her passive stacks will chunk you far more than you expect even at mid-game power spikes.
