Who Wins
- Pre-6, you lose the ranged poke war if you try to match Jayce ability-for-ability, but at level 3 your W sustain lets you absorb some of his poke and your E-Q combo can punish him if he overextends for a trade.
- Post-6, your R fundamentally changes the matchup — landing R into a wall or into your jungler's path creates kill pressure that Jayce cannot simply range-kite away from.
How to Trade
- Your best trading pattern is to use W to sustain through his ranged poke, wait for him to use his E or misposition, then engage with your own E to close the gap and land Q on top of him before he can switch to hammer form and knock you back.
- Short trades favor Jayce, so you want to commit to all-ins where your burst combo — E into Q into R — can chunk or kill him before he can disengage.
Wave Control
- You should look to slow-push and build a large wave, then crash it and roam or dive, because Jayce's wave clear in cannon form is strong but he is vulnerable when you can force him to choose between clearing and respecting your all-in threat.
- Avoid letting him freely poke you under tower, as his ranged Q through minions still deals significant damage and you lose the sustain war if you are constantly low.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not use your E aggressively without a clear follow-up, because a whiffed E in this matchup means Jayce can freely switch to hammer form and punish you with his own E knockback while you are on cooldown.
- Also avoid fighting him in the middle of an open lane with no walls nearby post-6, as your R loses most of its kill-setup value without terrain to bounce him into a dangerous position.
