Who Wins

  • You win most trades pre-6 by using your range advantage and Q-W combo to chunk Maokai while staying out of his W range.
  • Post-6 becomes more dangerous as his R forces extended fights, but you can still win if you manage your rage bar properly and avoid his engage.

How to Trade

  • Poke with Q and auto attacks while maintaining maximum range, then use W proc for burst damage before backing away.
  • In mega form, look for E-W-Q combos but be careful not to overextend as you'll be vulnerable when transforming back.

Wave Control

  • Freeze the wave near your tower early to deny Maokai farm and force him to overextend for CS where you can punish with trades.
  • Use your range to thin waves and prevent him from building slow pushes that enable his all-ins.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Don't get caught in melee range when your E is on cooldown, as Maokai's W-Q combo will chunk you heavily.
  • Avoid transforming to Mega Gnar when low on health, as you'll be stuck in melee form and vulnerable to his sustained damage and crowd control.
