Who Wins
- Pre-6, Irelia wins almost every extended trade due to her mobility, sustain from passive stacks, and your inability to reliably land Q at close range; post-6, you gain meaningful zone control with R and sustained damage through E, but Irelia can still burst through your egg form if she has ignite or enough items, so the 1v1 remains dangerous unless you have significant level or gold advantages.
How to Trade
- Your best trading pattern is to use E at max range to poke, then threaten Q only when Irelia overextends or mispositions — never commit to a full trade at close range unless she has used her E on a minion and cannot dash to you, as her passive-stacked all-in will outdamage your combo at most points in the game.
Wave Control
- Push the wave hard with E to force Irelia to last-hit under pressure, denying her the minion resets she needs to safely engage; once you have R, use it to freeze or slow-push the wave near your tower, making her approach through your zone of control rather than letting her pick her own engagement timing.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Do not attempt to stun Irelia mid-dash with Q as a primary engage tool — she can dash through minions to close the gap before your Q lands, and missing it in a full trade is almost always a death sentence given your lack of mobility and her sustained damage output.
