Who Wins
- You win most early trades with range advantage and Q true damage return, especially levels 1-3 where he lacks damage to punish your poke.
- Post-6, you have kill pressure with R-E combo, but must respect his sustained DPS if you miss charm - his low cooldown Q spam and passive movement speed bursts let him kite and outdamage your burst rotation.
How to Trade
- Use Q to poke and waveclear while staying at max range, then look for W-E-Q combos when he steps up for CS or wastes abilities on wave.
- Post-6 kill combo: R forward, land E charm, Q-W burst, then use remaining R charges to chase for kill or escape if trade goes poorly.
Wave Control
- Push and roam frequently post-6, as Ryze struggles to match your R mobility for cross-map plays despite having his own R teleport for macro.
- Keep waves pushed to deny him farm and force him to choose between following roams (risky without vision) or losing CS/plates under tower.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Never waste E on minions or throw it predictably - Ryze's passive movement speed bursts from Q casts make it easy to dodge if you're telegraphed.
- Avoid extended trades when abilities are on cooldown, as his low cooldown E-Q spam and sustained DPS win longer fights against your burst-dependent kit.
